Discharge Criteria Key Clinical Questions
07. How do hospitals define high-risk patients and are there criteria or policies specific to these patients?
a. HOMERuN institutions
Definitions of high-risk varied by site (frequent characteristics included older age, immunocompromise, or pregnancy) and approaches fell into three categories:
1) consultation with experts regarding discharge criteria and post-discharge care;
2) modification of clinical criteria for discharge such as requiring a longer period of stability or time since symptom onset; and
3) prolonged period of time before removing home isolation precautions (e.g., 14 days instead of 7 days from symptom onset). These approaches require further study.
