What is HOMERuN?
The Hospital Medicine Reengineering Network (HOMERuN) was established in 2011 to advance the field of Hospital Medicine by supporting and conducting rigorous, multi-center research studies to improve the care of patients with acute illnesses.
HOMERuN began as a collaboration among Hospitalists and researchers at 13 academic medical centers, with a focus on improving transitions of care, but has since expanded its reach to include our most important stakeholder — The Patient. We have an active Patient and Family Advisory Council, which meets regularly to share valuable experiences and feedback for quality improvements in the program.
Among a large portfolio of funded research, HOMERuN has supported multiple studies focusing on avoidable and preventable readmissions, understanding the impact of lab testing on patient management, and working with an established collaborative research group to expand their inpatient-focused data model.
